The Hay Festival
Since its inception in 1988, the Hay Festival of Literature has grown in scale and reputation, now attracting in excess of 80,000 visitors over its 10 day period in June of each year.

Described as 'The Woodstock of The Mind' by Bill Clinton duing his visit, the festival now features readings, discussion and performances by writers, journalists, TV reporters, politicians and musicians - in fact anyone who has anything interesting or entertaining to say. Previous headliners have included Bill Clinton, Paddy Ashdown, George Alagiah, David attenborough, Ronnie Corbett, Martin Amis, Armando Iannucci, Sebastian Faulks, Sandi Toksvig, Maureen lipman, Zadie Smith, Richard Dawkins, Clive James and Sir Bob Geldoff to name but a few.

The childrens festival continues to grow attracting the likes of Michael Morpurgo, Geraldine McCaughrean, Lauren Child and Roly Mo!

The image of the festival being just about writers has actually put some people off in the past, suggesting it is too highbrow. Notice it is no longer called the Festival of Literature, but is now just 'The Hay Festival'.
